The nose reveals elegant aromas of pear, jasmine and white flowers, complemented by citrus, subtle herbal notes and a delicate hint of spice. On the palate, lively acidity balances the fruit, while a stony, flinty mineral character brings freshness and length to the finish. A refined, unusual expression of Piedmont’s lesser-known white grape varieties.

Ageing/Vinification: Made from 100% Bussanello, a rare white grape created in the 1930s by crossing Furmint with Riesling Italico (Welschriesling). The grapes are harvested in the second half of September, destemmed and crushed using dry ice to help protect their aromatic freshness. Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature of approximately 15–17°C. The wine remains in stainless steel, with intermittent bâtonnage (stirring of the lees) to enhance texture and complexity. Bottling takes place the following winter or early spring, preserving the wine’s freshness, purity and varietal character.

Vineyard: The vineyard is located in the hills of Maretto, in the Astigiano area of Monferrato, Piedmont, at approximately 270 metres above sea level. Crotin 1897 cultivates around one hectare of Bussanello organically, planted in 2003. The vines are trained using the traditional Guyot system, with a north-easterly exposure that encourages gradual ripening and freshness. The soils are composed of ancient marine sands, blue tuff and clay, contributing to the wine’s distinctive mineral character and lively acidity. Production is limited, making Plisun a particularly rare expression of this indigenous Piedmontese winegrowing experiment.

Winery Website: https://www.crotin1897.com/

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1017/4739/files/22327719_2023_Crotin_Piemonte_Busanello_Plisun.png?v=1792778464
