2021 Cavallotto ‘Vigna Cuculo’ Barbera d'Alba Superiore DOC

The organic Cavallotto 2021 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Vigna Cuculo has excellent structure with typical atoms and flavours of Barbera grown in the Barolo zone: red fruits, red flowers, open and intense. Excellent aging potential.

Cavallotto is a family-run winery, dedicated to viticulture for generations. Today, the estate is managed by the fourth generation of the Cavallotto family, Alfio Cavallotto, continuing the tradition of producing high-quality wines.  Farmed organically since 1976, these are wines of exceptional quality and arise from a fusion of unwavering dedication to meticulous farming and judicious winemaking. Alfio, starting with the finest fruits, crafts lively, dynamic, and expansive wines that provide sheer delight to the palate. The Cavallotto family has nurtured their hillside plot with cautious care over many years, resulting in vines of remarkable endurance, producing concentrated, ripe fruit well into their seventh decade. Pioneers in organic viticulture, the family embraces innovation and mechanization where it enhances their practices. This steadfast commitment and forward-thinking undoubtedly position these wines among the finest in Barolo, if not the entire region. With luxurious structure and an irresistibly appealing quality, these are wines that every collector should include in their cellar.

2019 Mascarello ‘Scudetto’ Barbera d'Alba DOC

The Giuseppe Mascarello 2019 Barbera d'Alba Scudetto offers a lot of dense richness and firmness that gives it an almost monumental quality. You taste the building blocks, brick by brick. The fruit is tight, even a bit nervous at this young stage, with blackberry, tarry smoke and licorice. Vintner Mauro Mascarello is very happy with 2019. The warm 2021 vintage came a bit early, and 2020 shows leaner structure, he says. - 92pts The Wine Advocate

The Giuseppe E. Figlio Mascarello estate, commonly known as Mascarello, has a rich history that spans several generations. The winery was officially established in 1881, and it has been family-owned and operated ever since. Today, the estate is led by Maria Teresa Mascarello, who continues the family's winemaking legacy.  Mascarello adheres to traditional winemaking methods, avoiding the use of barriques in favour of large oak casks. This approach allows the wines to develop complexity while maintaining the purity of fruit and the expression of the terroir.  The production of Mascarello wines is relatively small, contributing to the exclusivity and sought-after nature of their releases. The limited quantities and the estate's commitment to quality have contributed to the winery's prestigious reputation.  Along with Cavallotto, these are must-haves in one's cellar.

2020 Lodali 'Lorens’ Barbera d'Alba DOC

Full and structured, balanced, with a long finish, rich aroma, full and complex, full of personality, with elegant notes of blueberry, blackberry and spices

In the heart of Langhe, Piemonte, Walter Lodali, a third-generation winemaker, carries on the family's winemaking legacy. The story begins with his father, Giovanni, who started making wine in the 1930s at his trattoria in Treiso. After the war, Giovanni built a house with a significant wine cellar, laying the foundation for the Lodali family wines. In 1955, Lorenzo, Giovanni's son, graduated from the oenological school, and in 1958, he and his wife Rita produced Lodali's first vineyard selection - Barbaresco and Barolo. After Lorenzo's passing in 1982, Rita took charge, and their son, Walter, eventually assumed the winemaking reins in 1998. Under Walter's leadership, the estate thrived, earning acclaim, including Platinum, Gold, and Bronze medals at the 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards for their prestigious Lorens labels, named in honour of Walter's father.
