In the esteemed Alto Piemonte, Gattinara shines as a testament to the refinement and complexity that the Nebbiolo grape can achieve. This less-discovered region is known for its rich winemaking heritage and stunning landscapes, and ultimately where Stefano Vegis established his boutique winery. The dramatic terrain was shaped by ancient volcanic activity, leaving behind mineral-rich soils that benefit from varying microclimates to create wines of exceptional character.

The volcanic roots impart a distinctive acidity and minerality to Vegis' creations, while each vineyard site contributes its own profile and age. This dynamic collaboration of elements ensures that every plot enhances the wine's depth and character, making each bottle a vivid expression of Gattinara’s extraordinary terroir.

A leap of faith

Stefano Vegis, a rising star in the Alto Piemonte wine scene, took a bold leap into winemaking with his first vintage in 2013. After managing the family vineyards since 2009, Stefano initially sold grapes to local producers. His ambition led him to craft his own wines, and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

By 2018, his business structure had shifted, committing a substantial portion of his harvest to his own production. His meticulous approach, blending natural viticulture with traditional methods, has quickly established him as a noteworthy name in Gattinara.
