La Colombera

PIEMONTE

Timorasso, reimagined

In the charming village of Vho, La Colombera takes the revival of Timorasso, a historic white grape variety, very seriously. Embracing the area's rich viticultural heritage, meticulously cultivating the vineyards is of upmost importance. The soils here are diverse, made of sandstone, clay marl, limestone and tuff. This unique terroir, coupled with the region's optimal altitude, imparts the wines with a distinctive minerality and finesse that evolve beautifully with age.

La Colombera's commitment to sustainable farming practices ensures each bottle encapsulates the essence of their land, offering wines like Montino, celebrated for its complexity and refined balance. A winemaking legacy built on reimagining the forgotten, that has proven its potential was never lost through time.

Doing things differently

La Colombera is a testament to the passion and dedication of Elisa Semino and her father, Piercarlo. Prior to their care, the winery’s journey began in the 1950s when Elisa’s grandfather, Renato, planted the first vineyards. Thus, laying the foundation for future generations to focus on quality winemaking with often overlooked grape varietals. Over the years, Piercarlo refined his cellar techniques, and by 1997, the winery expanded significantly. A pivotal moment came in 1998 when Piercarlo cultivated a vineyard of Barbera Brusa and began planting Timorasso grapes, which now thrive in five vineyards.

The Semino family aims to showcase the diverse offerings of Piemonte, moving beyond the well-known Nebbiolo and Barbera. Inspired by 1980's revival of Timorasso, La Colombera and other local wineries embraced the grape, making it a highlight of the Tortonesi area. Today, La Colombera’s wines reflect the rich heritage and unique character of their region, inviting wine enthusiasts to discover a new side of Piemonte.
