Cataldi Madonna

The Revival of Pecorino

Cataldi Madonna epitomizes excellence in Abruzzo's winemaking landscape. Situated in Ofena, within the natural amphitheatre of the Gran Sasso mountain range, their vineyards thrive at altitudes from 320 to 440 meters above sea level.

Here, the ideal microclimate, shaped by mountain breezes and a Mediterranean influence, fosters optimal conditions for cultivating indigenous varieties such as Montepulciano, Pecorino and Trebbiano. These grapes thrive in the nutrient-rich soils, imparting a distinct terroir-driven character to Cataldi Madonna's wines.

BLENDING TRADITION WITH INNOVATION

Founded in 1920 by Baron Luigi Cataldi Madonna, the winery has evolved under successive generations of the Cataldi Madonna family. Nearby, the iconic Warrior of Capestrano, a symbol of Italian civilization, was discovered and has adorned the company's labels since Antonio Cataldi Madonna's initiative in 1975.

They've gained recgonition as a trailblazer in the region, most notably for the revival of the indigenous Pecorino grape. Today, under the stewardship of Giulia Cataldi Madonna, the estate continues to uphold its commitment to producing exceptional wines that reflect both the heritage and the incredible potential of the land.
