the potential in terroir
Biondi is recognized as one of the longest established wineries in the Mount Etna appellation. Their property boasts three unique Crus in the region of Trecastagni, a short distance from the picturesque Catania.
The terraced vineyards add to the unusual microclimate, and the diversity of the sandy volcanic soil differ quite dramatically from one vineyard to the next. A portion of the winery sits on soil impacted by a crater dating back to 125 BC, where a range of varietals are still grown.

A labour of love
Since 1999, Ciro and Stephanie Biondi have managed both the vineyards and winemaking, continuing a family tradition dating back to the 1600s. Maximum production was reached during the period between the two World Wars, owed to the dedication of Salvatore Biondi, Ciro’s great uncle.
However, towards the end of the second World War, the company experienced a period of decline after the premature death of Salvatore in the new post-war market. Through resilience, the couple triumphed and succeeded in restoring the 6 hectares owned by the family. This led to their production of Outis, a higher quality collection of wines that have brought their family legacy new life in the modern day.
