Gavi, that’s all we do
The Gavi region in southern Piemonte is a geological wonder where vast plains meet mountains and diverse soils significantly influence winemaking. La Mesma thrives here, managing two distinct plots. In the northern area, the red soils are a mix of ancient alluvial deposits, gravel and clay. Surrounded by gentle hills and century-old oak and chestnut forests, these conditions produce wines with notable structure. At 300 meters above sea level, visitors can enjoy scenic views stretching to the Alps.
Further south, the landscape transitions to limestone and tuffaceous 'white' soils, quite different from the red soils in the north. This area, influenced by the breeze from the Ligurian Sea, imparts a distinct minerality balanced by floral aromas. La Mesma's Gavi wines truly reflect the varied and vibrant terroir of this remarkable region.

The power of diversity
La Mesma began with a dream: three sisters, Paola, Francesca, and Anna, inspired by their mother's vision, transformed a beautiful house in Monterotondo into a thriving vineyard. Starting in 2001, they combined their diverse backgrounds—art history, biology and law—to create a unique winemaking philosophy. Their initial five hectares quickly expanded to twenty-five, encompassing the prestigious Gavi region. With a commitment to sustainability and innovation, they acquired La Bella Alleanza in 2004, further expanding their vineyards and winery. Today, La Mesma is a testament to their passion, blending tradition with modern techniques to produce exceptional wines while preserving the surrounding landscape's biodiversity.
