Heritage in Every Bottle
Crotin 1897, a family-run winery in Maretto, Piedmont, has a long history of winemaking. Since its founding in 1897, the estate has stayed true to its roots while embracing organic and sustainable viticulture. The Russo family, who manage the winery, focus on local grape varieties like Barbera, Freisa, Grignolino, and newer additions such as Albarossa, Bussanello, and the aromatic Malvasia Moscata. Each wine is crafted to express the vineyard's character and the estate’s philosophy. Using indigenous yeasts and minimal sulfur, they allow each wine to develop naturally, preserving the grape's essence and terroir.
Organic Vines and Unique Varietals
The vineyards at Crotin 1897 are cultivated using the Guyot method, which promotes optimal vine growth and grape quality. Native varieties like Freisa, Barbera, Grignolino, and Bonarda thrive here, while newer plantings such as Albarossa and Bussanello diversify their portfolio. Managed organically with natural compost, the estate ensures sustainable practices throughout. Each wine is crafted from single vineyard selections, resulting in limited-production batches that capture the unique character of each plot.
