Abbazia di Novacella Kerner Alto Adige Valle Isarco DOC

Pronunciation: "KER-ner”

Grape
100% Kerner
Kerner is a cross between Schiava and Riesling, developed in Germany to combine aromatic intensity with cold resistance. In Alto Adige, it expresses crisp acidity and delicate floral-fruity notes.

Region
Valle Isarco, Trentino-Alto Adige. Italy’s northernmost DOC region, Alto Adige is remarkable for its diversity of terroirs and holds the highest proportion of DOC wine production in the country, over 98%. The vineyards in Valle Isarco lie between 600 and 800 meters above sea level, on glacial moraine soils rich in quartz and mica-schist. The cool Alpine climate and sharp day-night temperature shifts promote slow ripening and exceptional aromatic precision.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw with green highlights. Delicate yet expressive aromas of white peach, alpine flowers, and citrus zest. The palate is bright and focused, with juicy orchard fruit, crisp acidity, and a lingering mineral finish.

Vinification & Ageing
Fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures. Aged for around 6 months on fine lees to preserve freshness and texture.

Ageing Potential
2–4 years. Aromatic and fresh, it holds well short-term but is best young.

Food Pairing
Ideal with shellfish, smoked trout, grilled white fish, asparagus risotto, or semi-soft Alpine cheeses.

Fun Fact
Produced by monks at one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the world, founded in 1142. Read our blog article: A VISIT TO ABBAZIA DI NOVACELLA

Grape
100% Malvasia
Malvasia is an ancient Mediterranean family of grapes known for its aromatic profile. In Colli Piacentini, this dry expression emphasizes floral elegance and texture.

Region
Colli Piacentini, Emilia-Romagna. The hills reach up to 300 meters, with sandy clay and limestone soils that enhance aromatic expression. The area has a long tradition of producing floral, characterful whites.

Tasting Notes
Bright gold in the glass with aromas of jasmine, peach nectar, and wild herbs. The palate is dry and supple, with silky texture, lifted floral tones, and a clean, elegant finish.

Vinification & Ageing
Gentle pressing and fermentation at low temperatures in stainless steel. Aged briefly in steel to preserve its aromatic freshness.

Ageing Potential
2–5 years. Likely an aromatic and slightly structured Malvasia; can surprise with mid-term evolution.

Food Pairing
Pairs well with spicy Asian dishes, herb-roasted chicken, shrimp salad, and young cheeses such as robiola or stracchino.

Fun Fact
“Tasto di Seta” translates to “Silk Touch”, a reference to both the wine’s texture and the owners’ deep appreciation for classical music.
