Bruna U Baccan Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC
Pronunciation: “pee-GAH-toh”
Grape
100% Pigato
Pigato is a Ligurian white grape, closely related to Vermentino, but with a more aromatic and structured character. In the hands of Bruna, it reaches remarkable depth and longevity.
Region
Liguria, Riviera Ligure di Ponente. The vineyards are located on terraced slopes near the Ligurian Sea, where maritime breezes and slate soils give the wines saline energy and mineral finesse.
Tasting Notes
Bright golden straw. Aromas of Mediterranean herbs, apricot, citrus zest, and wet stone. Full and textured on the palate, with ripe fruit, salty minerality, and a long, savoury finish.
Vinification & Ageing: Fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. Aged on fine lees in tank and partially in old barrels to enhance mouthfeel.
Vinification & Ageing
Soft pressing, removal of solid matter from the must and beginning of fermentation in steel. Fermentation and ageing in barrel on the lees without racking for ten months. Bottle ageing for eight months.
Ageing Potential
6–10 years. One of Liguria’s most age-worthy whites, complex and saline, gains depth with time.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with seafood stew, anchovies, pesto pasta, or grilled squid.
Fun Fact
“U Baccan” means “the boss” in local dialect and is named after the grandfather who planted these old vines in the 1950s.
