Premium Case Wine Description - October 2025

Nebbiolo is one of Italy’s noblest grapes, and takes on different personalities depending on where it’s grown and how it’s made. This premium case brings together three distinctive interpretations. From Alto Piemonte, Colombera & Garella’s Bramaterra shows mineral precision and savoury spice, while Le Pianelle’s Bramaterra adds silky layers of cherry, rose and earthy depth. From Langhe, Giuseppe Mascarello offers a timeless, quintessential example of Nebbiolo, floral and complex with firm, noble tannins and real ageing potential. Together, they highlight Nebbiolo’s full spectrum, from refined northern elegance to classic Langhe power.

COLOMBERA & GARELLA – Bramaterra DOC Cascina Cottignano

Grape
Predominantly Nebbiolo, blended with small percentages of Croatina and Vespolina, the classic grapes of northern Piedmont’s Bramaterra appellation.

Region
From Bramaterra, Alto Piemonte, Italy. Vineyards are planted on ancient volcanic soils rich in minerals, with a cool continental climate influenced by the Alps. These conditions give Nebbiolo a leaner, more mineral-driven character than in southern Piedmont.

Tasting Notes
Ruby red with garnet highlights. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry, rose, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is elegant and savoury, with firm yet refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long finish marked by mineral and floral notes.

Vinification & Ageing
Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. Ageing takes place in large neutral oak casks, allowing slow maturation and preservation of the wine’s terroir-driven character.

Ageing Potential
Capable of ageing gracefully for 10–15 years, developing tertiary notes of leather, truffle, and dried flowers.

Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with red wine risotto, braised meats, mushroom dishes, and alpine cheeses.

Fun Fact
Colombera & Garella is at the forefront of Alto Piemonte’s renaissance, crafting wines that highlight the region’s volcanic soils and historic blends.

LE PIANELLE – Bramaterra DOC

Grape
Nebbiolo with small percentages of Croatina and Vespolina, reflecting the traditional blend of the Bramaterra appellation in Alto Piemonte.

Region
From Bramaterra, Alto Piemonte, where ancient volcanic soils, high elevation, and alpine influences create Nebbiolo wines with freshness, minerality, and elegance.

Tasting Notes
Medium ruby with garnet edges. Aromas of red berries, dried herbs, violet, and earthy spice. The palate is precise and structured, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven finish.

Vinification & Ageing
Fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel. The wine matures in large oak casks and occasionally tonneaux, allowing complexity to build while respecting the purity of fruit.

Ageing Potential
Excellent ageing capacity of 10–15 years, gaining savoury, earthy depth over time.

Food Pairing
Ideal with braised veal, polenta with mushrooms, alpine cheeses, and truffle dishes.

Fun Fact
Le Pianelle is a young but highly respected estate, dedicated to reviving Alto Piemonte’s historic Bramaterra wines with precision and authenticity.

MASCARELLO GIUSEPPE E FIGLIO – Langhe Nebbiolo DOC

Grape
100% Nebbiolo, the noble grape of Piedmont, celebrated for its structure, perfume, and capacity to age.

Region
Produced in the Langhe, Piedmont, one of Italy’s most prestigious wine regions. The calcareous marl soils and unique microclimates of Barolo and Barbaresco lend depth and finesse even to the estate’s Nebbiolo “entry” wines.

Tasting Notes
Brilliant ruby with garnet hues. Aromas of cherry, rose, licorice, and earthy spice. On the palate, it is refined and expressive, with silky tannins, precise acidity, and a savoury, lingering finish.

Vinification & Ageing
Traditional fermentation with extended maceration. Ageing in large Slavonian oak botti brings subtlety and elegance while preserving Nebbiolo’s classic aromas.

Ageing Potential
Enjoyable young for its purity and elegance, but can evolve beautifully over 8–12 years, approaching the depth of a Barolo in style.

Food Pairing
Pairs with truffle-based dishes, roasted game, tajarin with ragu, and aged cheeses.

Fun Fact
The Mascarello family is among Piedmont’s most iconic producers, celebrated for a traditional, terroir-driven approach and meticulous craftsmanship across generations.
